Ella Rose Sharp

My sweet little Princess Babycakes, Ella Rose, has officially celebrated her Sweet 16th, and just like that, she is all grown up. Well… at least she thinks she is. I know every parent will understand when I say there is something about your child turning 16 that feels like a real shift. It is one of those moments that makes you stop and reflect. You worry, you pray, and you hope that through all the years of parenting, you have done enough to reach them, teach them, guide them, and help shape them into a good human being. A friend of mine has often said, “The days are long, but the years are short.” Right now, no words could feel more true. It seems like in the blink of an eye, Ella has gone from being my little princess in her Disney dresses, wild headbands, and adventurous spirit, to becoming a young lady who is beautiful in mind, body, and soul. Watching that transformation has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

As I share these pictures of her growing up, I am reminded that no matter how old a daughter gets, no matter what road she travels, and no matter whether life brings smooth paths or difficult terrain, she will always be her daddy’s little girl. Just like the Tim McGraw song says, “You’re gonna always be my little baby girl.” I am so proud of the young woman she is becoming, of the life she is building, of the friendships she has made, and of the accomplishments she has earned along the way.

I knew this day would come, but that does not make it any easier to believe it is already here. I have cherished every step of this journey. I still look back with a big smile and, yes, a few tears in my eyes as I remember all the daddy-daughter dances, the baseball and soccer fields, and the basketball and tennis courts. I have loved every chance to watch her grow, to coach her in sports, and even more importantly, to coach her in life. My hope has always been that one day she would truly know just how much she means to me. Because no matter how much time passes, no matter how much she grows, and no matter where life takes her… she will always be my little girl.

Happy 16th Birthday to my daughter, my princess, my Ella Rose.
